Looking for suitable locations

We went around peterborough searching for different locations which would give us more of an intuitive understanding of the story we were going to create and film. By looking at different locations I was able to establish new ideas on how the locations played a part in the story. These are some of the locations we found:

Empty Car Park

Narrow Alleyway

Empty Hall

Location - Initial Ideas

After getting intial ideas about what we are going to incude in our film, we came up with possible ideas for our locations we were going to use. We came up with locations relevant to what kind of genre we were goign for; we tried to think of isolated areas which were suitable to use in our film:

Main Film Task - Ideas

We decided to produce an action film and started researching other action films for ideas. These are the films and reseach we came up with:

We discussed and came up with this information which we thought was crucial for an action film and it gave us more of a guided approach on what we were going to include in this:

Film Opening Research

We began researching into action film openings and looked at the format and the order of events in which things happened. We studied the use of the establishing shots and other interesting angles; this would be useful in terms of ideas for our film.

In this clip from James, we paticularly liked the the establishing shot which panned from left to right. It really sets the scene and the wideness of the shot makes the location seem quite big. In addition there are also other interesting angles such as the spy camera point of view shots and the zoomed in shots.
Establishing shot from James Bond which pans from left to right

This clip from reservoir dogs inspired us a lot because the walk scene was our main inspiration for a certain part of our intro, we want to use similiar camera angles and find a song with a strong bass line to give a certain 'criminal' feeling.  This make the characters seem 'cool' and tells the audience more about the attitude
of the characters.

This clip is taken from the film 'The Dark Knight'. We were very intersted in the establishing shot of the city which zoomed into a building and from there the action began. Also we liked the way the camera panned around certain characters and props for example the machine used to brake into the safe in the bank.

Looking at previous opening scenes has given us a lot more ideas to experiment with. We are going to be very creative in terms of camera angles and shots to make our film different from the rest of the action films.
